Having been raised on the West Coast of Florida and then moving around the country, I have landed in Columbus, Ohio. I love the change of seasons that we didn't get in Florida but I still really enjoy that February fishing trip for Peacock Bass in South Florida, the June trip for Tarpon on the West Coast and the Trout fishing in Montana.
I have been traveling around this great country for many years, but for the most part it was for work. First I was a Pipeline Surveyor working on many oil & gas projects throughout the country. I have climbed the mountains of West Virginia, steamed in Alabama and fried in Texas and then i moved into business development. Now I fly over the country on a weekly basis but never get to spend any time to explore, it was always in and out. 4 years ago I decided that I needed to slow down and see more of this beautiful country so I decided to rent a car and drive around Arizona for a week with no itinerary or plans. This trip awoke me to what I was missing, the peace, the solitude and the joy of discovering new places, it was a new addiction.
Since this time I have made it a point to travel down gravel trails rather than highways. I have spent a month in Montana and Idaho at remote Forest Service cabins and have plans to return again in June of 2022 for 14 days. I am going on a 7 day Houseboat excursion at Voyageurs National Park in Minnesota in the fall and spend as much time as I can seeking out gravel rather than asphalt.
My years of traveling, often on the cheap, have really given me some great planning insights. The Forest Service cabins in Montana....$25 a night BUT it requires a real 4WD to get there so I found the Jeep Rubicon for rent that made the trip possible. Catch the biggest Bass of your life.. Done that at minimal costs.
I bought my son and myself fishing kayaks but then needed a good way to transport them so I built a badass trailer to haul them around for cheap.
Some of my "adventures" aren't as far down the gravel trail as others but if I can find a place to fish, walk or find solitude then I will find a way to get there.
I guess what I am trying to say is FIND A WAY TO GET AWAY!! Whether it's an hour away or days away, GO! America is a beautiful country that the vast majority have not seen up close and personal.
I would love to join you on your adventures and have you tag along on mine. Please click subscribe now so that you can see my travels and I can follow along with you.
